WOOD

DO's: Polish using a soft, clean cloth in the direction of the grain. Select either an oil or wax‑based polish; however do not interchange the two types or you may cloud the finish.  Use a table pad to protect your dining room table from heat and moisture damage.  Control your climate‑extremes of heat and cold or humidity and dryness can seriñously affect the condition and durability of your wood.  Level cabinets after placing items in them in order to properly align doors and drawers.  Protect your furniture by arranging pieces out of direct sunlight. Draw window treatñments during peak sunlight hours.

DON'Ts: Avoid contact between plastic, rubber, or vinyl and wood surfaces. These comñpounds cause a chemical reaction harmful to wood finishes. Nail polish or remover, perfumes, and hair products, to name a few, are also harmful to wood.

ABOUT WOOD:

The distinctive grain of finished woods is as individual as a fingerprint. Every piece of wood furniture has beautiful natural characteristics which add character and charm to furniture. These traits may be highlighted by stains and dyes. Characteristics of natural wood include open and closed grains, minerals streaks and knots, and cherry "pits" or "sap pockets", to name a few.  Wood naturally "mellows" or darkens with time, so that an older piece will appear darker than a newly‑finished one. It is interesting to note, however, that as time elapses, the difference between the two pieces diminishes.  Understanding the natñural characteristics of wood will help you better enjoy the unique beauty of your natural wood furniture.

UPHOLSTERY

DOs: Check the cleaning codes for your fabric before cleaning or having your upholstery cleaned (regular professional cleaning is recommended).  Vacuum upholstery frequently.  Rotate and flip seat cushions and fluff back pillows frequently for even wear and exposure to light and soil.  "Comfort wrinkles" are a normal part of the maturing of upholstered furniture. Fluffing and turning pillows and cushions will keep wrinkles to a minimum.  Deal with stains immediately. If you purchased fabric protection, report the stain to the fabric protection company right away, While some spills may bead up, others can penetrate quickly. After a spill, immediately blot all excess liquid with a dry cloth. Never rub!

DON'Ts: Avoid direct sunlight on fabrics or leather.  Avoid using "off-the-shelf" cleaners or protectors on leather, follow manufacturer's care instructions instead.  Avoid contact with anything damp or wet, even water can damage or stain upholstery.

ABOUT PILLING:

"Pilling" is characteristic of many upholstery fabrics, The release of excess fibers results in the formation of small balls or "pills" on the fabric surface, similar to the fuzzing experienced with new carpeting or a new sweater.  Pilling is not warranteed by manufacturers because it is the result of normal wear and is not considered a defect.  The best treatment is simply to "shave" the fabric with a battery‑operated furniture or sweater shaver to restore the look of the fabric. Pilling will diminish and eventuñally stop.

Bedding

Some Do’s and Dont’s to keep you from invalidating your warranty

It is easy to protect your investment and receive the maximum in comfort and durability from your new bedding by following these simple rules.

  • Turn your mattress frequently. Due to the composition of the body-conforming coils and comfort cushioning materials, body impressions will occur as the upholstery layers settle during initial use. This is not a structural defect and is normal for a new mattress. The mattress should contour to your body to provide support where you need it most. When this occurs, the cushioning materials are beginning to work for you. So when you start to see body impressions, this is a normal occurrence in the performance of any top quality mattress.
  • Turn the mattress over, end-to-end and side ñto-side EVERY TWO WEEKS for the first six months. After this period, turn it every two to three months.
  • Turning your box spring end to end every six  months will assure even wear.
  • Be sure your bed frame is sturdy enough to provide support for your bedding. A bent frame will cause the foundation to bend, which in turn will cause the mattress to bend. For queen size bedding, a six wheel frame with a center support bar is mandatory in order to support the weight evenly.
  • Make sure to keep your bedding clean. The warranty will not be valid if bedding has been stained, soiled or abused. A mattress pad is recommended, especially if children use the bed.
  • Treat your sleep set with care. If children use your mattress as a trampoline, this would not be considered normal use. Your warranty does not cover mattress abuse.
  • Do not bend or fold the mattress. This will damage the inner-spring unit.
  • Use the handles to position the mattress on the foundation only. They are not intended to carry the mattress or to support the full weight of the mattress in turning or lifting. The manufacturer's warranty does not cover mattress handles that have come loose from the mattress.
  • Do not worry if your new mattress is larger than your new box spring. This is normal. There is additional upholstery used in the mattress which makes it finish slightly larger than the box spring.
  • Do not be alarmed if "loose" threads are present. These are simply cosmetic and will not affect wear or comfort in any way.
  • Do not expect your new bedding to feel like what you were previously sleeping on. It may seem extremely firm or soft. This is normal and you'll soon become adjusted to the change in feel. It will take about 30 to 90 days of sleeping on your new bedding until you adjust to its firmness and contour.
  • Do not be concerned if your box spring dust cover is torn due to transit or handling. It is important to realize that this is simply a finishing item and has no bearing on the comfort or durability of the box spring. A new dust cover can be provided.
  • King size mattress are too large to fit up many staircases.  We will not deliver a mattress on a second floor unless the customer accepts responsibility for any damages incurred.
